Notarize is an online notary public service that operates across the United States and serves customers globally. In 2011, Virginia became the first state to allow appropriately commissioned notaries public to complete online notarizations for people located worldwide.

Since then, 22 new states have allowed their own notaries to complete online notarizations, and states nationwide have recognized documents that have been notarized over their borders. Notarize has notarized documents on every continent except Antarctica.

Passing New Legislation

After a two year effort that's taken us to every state across the country, we're honored to have participated in the efforts to pass new legislation in 20 states to enable their notaries to also perform online notarizations. Dozens more are considering model legislation in 2019.

We're proud of the coalition we've built across industries and our collaboration with the local and national chapters of the American Land Title Association and Mortgage Bankers Association to get the issues right for technology vendors, industry and most importantly, consumers. We believe many more states will adopt new laws in 2019 to enable their notaries to also perform online notarizations. We're supporting these efforts across the country.
